Upcoming Feast Days

July 29, 2019
Solemn Mass St Peter in Chains, 7pm Thursday, 1st August

The Feast of St Peter in Chains commemorates the historical event of St Peter being delivered by God when he was chained in prison. It also celebrates the dedication of the Basilica that houses the chains that he was bound with and was delivered from. This Feast is of great antiquity as it is contained in the Gregorian Sacramentary and the Propers of the Mass are almost identical to what we have in the Roman Missal.
“…Glorious Chains! Before the Herods and Neros and Caesars of all ages ye will be the guarantee of the liberty of souls. With what veneration have the Christian people honoured you, ever since the earliest times!” (Dom Prosper Gueranger)

Portiuncula Plenary Indulgence, Friday 2nd August

This indulgence can be obtained by visiting a parish church, reciting the Creed & Our Father. The usual conditions apply: prayers for the Pope’s intentions, Holy Communion, Confession within one week either side, detachment from all sin.
This Indulgence was the first Plenary Indulgence granted by the Church at the behest of St Francis of Assisi

Direct Deposit

If you do not usually carry cash on you, you may find it more convenient to contribute to the parish collections by direct deposit. Please refer to the page opposite, which gives the details of the accounts.

Investiture into the Brown Scapular after Mass

Conferral with the scapular indicates a special devotion and consecration to Mary. No one should undertake it who is not prepared to live in accordance with it. In the New Rite, “the short form of investing or conferral consists of a priest or deacon taking a blessed scapular and while placing it over their head reciting with the person any Marian prayer (e.g. Hail Mary, Memorare, Salve Regina)…” In the Old Rite, there are a few pertinent investiture formulae in the Rituale Romanum. No special daily practices are prescribed, though someone consecrated to Mary, of which the scapular is the external sign, should live chastely in accordance to their state in life. At MHM, the various devotions from the previous discipline are commutated to the daily Rosary.

Investing MUST be done with the cloth scapular. Those who wish to wear the medal can do so only after investment. The scapular blessing attaches to each subsequent scapular. A new blessing is NOT required. This is not true of the medal, each which must be blessed by a priest or deacon.
